Italian driver paid tribute to the three-time world champion at Morumbi Cemetery before taking to the track for Formula 1’s São Paulo GP activities.

São Paulo — The week of the Formula 1 São Paulo Grand Prix began filled with symbolism and emotion. Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli took advantage of his stay in the capital of São Paulo to visit the grave of his biggest idol in the sport, three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, located at Morumbi Cemetery.

In the images captured during the visit, Antonelli appears alongside family members in front of the grave covered in flowers and tokens of affection left by fans from all over the globe. A detail that caught fans’ attention was the young driver’s attire: a blue t-shirt featuring the character Senninha, whose licensed product proceeds go toward the educational projects of the Ayrton Senna Institute.

This was the second time the young prodigy visited the site during the week of the Brazilian GP. Antonelli has never hidden the inspiration he draws from the Brazilian’s career — even adopting the number 12 on his race car as a direct tribute to the number Senna made famous during his time at McLaren.

The schedule of tributes to the Brazilian icon began days earlier. Antonelli visited the Senna family farm, where he had the opportunity to see up close and step inside the historic Lotus 98T driven by Ayrton in the 1986 season. On that occasion, the Italian described the moment as an “unforgettable day” on his social media accounts.

For the race at Interlagos, Antonelli prepared a helmet with a special commemorative paint scheme combining the colors and references of Brazil and Ayrton Senna, reinforcing the emotional connection he maintains with the country and the memory of the three-time champion.
